About 25 people were evacuated from a Mission Hills post office Thursday after U.S. Postal Service workers discovered a seven-inch pipe bomb inside the building, authorities said.
Explosives experts from the Los Angeles Police Department were called to the scene shortly after 11 a.m., and they detonated the device outside the building.
The pipe bomb, which resembled a firecracker, was found in the customer services office of the San Fernando Post Office’s Mission Hills annex, 10919 Sepulveda Blvd., Acting Postmaster Dale Herbert said.
There were no injuries, and Police Officer Bill Frio said no motive or suspects had been identified.
