Knocked down twice and severely gashed, a 16-year-old girl attacked and scared off an assailant who held an ax at her mother’s throat in their San Francisco copy store. The teen-ager, Rose Lacy, sustained ax wounds on her head and face that required 200 stitches, but continued to confront the man. Police said the man backed away and then fled after demanding money from Rose and her mother, Melody Lacy. “He seemed frightened when she got up and started chasing him with half her face falling off,” said the mother, who credited her daughter with saving her life.
