A major Afghan government arms warehouse exploded and burst into flames near Kabul’s airport, destroying a large quantity of ammunition and weaponry, witnesses said. The explosion in eastern Kabul occurred close to midnight and shook buildings up to five miles away. It was not immediately known what caused the blast, but the city has been the target of repeated rocket attacks by Muslim guerrillas in the last week. The extent of damage, and the type and quantity of weaponry destroyed, was not immediately known.
