NEW YORK — A federal judge today set bail at $10 million for the release of Saudi Arabian financier Adnan Khashoggi, charged with aiding former Philippine President Ferdinand E. Marcos in a massive real estate fraud.
The judge also ruled that Khashoggi, one of the world’s richest men who was extradited from Switzerland last Wednesday, must remain in New York and wear an “unremovable electronic bracelet” attached to his wrist or ankle to monitor his movements.
U.S. District Judge John Keenan said Khashoggi must provide half of the $10 million in cash or surrender bank books in that amount.
Khashoggi was also ordered to remain in the New York area and must physically report to authorities twice a week and telephone them every day.
