A preliminary hearing has been delayed until Sept. 1 for an Anaheim man captured in the mountains of Montana on suspicion of shooting his wife to death in Anaheim.
David Lee Schoenecker, 48, was charged with first-degree murder in May and pleaded not guilty. He agreed to a postponement in his preliminary hearing in an appearance Friday in Fullerton Municipal Court.
Schoenecker, a chemical engineer, is being held without bail at Orange County Jail. He wrote a letter to an Orange County Register columnist in which he said he had killed his wife, Gail Schoenecker, 40, and threatened to “punish” 54 relatives and other acquaintances.
If convicted, Schoenecker could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
