Two suspected gang members accused of gunning down a 17-year-old in a May 19 drive-by shooting outside a Glendale church pleaded not guilty this week to charges of attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
A Pasadena Juvenile Court judge ruled July 27 that the pair would be tried as adults because of the seriousness of the crime.
Pierre Ilao and Alvin Pagoyon, both 17-year-old Los Angeles residents, were arrested in connection with the shooting outside a dance at Holy Family Church.
In the shooting, Erwin de Jesus Sibal of Glassell Park, an Eagle Rock High School student, was hit in the chest, abdomen and arm at close range with a .38-caliber gun. He was hospitalized 11 days.
Preliminary hearings for Ilao and Pagoyan are scheduled Aug. 31 in Glendale Municipal Court. Both are being held without bail at Eastlake Juvenile Hall, Deputy Dist. Atty. David S. Dahle said. If convicted, each could be sentenced to a maximum term of life in prison, Dahle said.
