A class action suit has been filed against Pine Knob Theatre in Pontiac, Mich., seeking refunds for an estimated 93,230 ticket-holders who attended concerts by Rod Stewart, the Beach Boys and Chicago. The suit claims the outdoor shows were oversold so badly that “misery, not music” was the main attraction. The three women, ages 27, 34 and 24, who filed the suit not only want ticket refunds for all patrons but also reimbursement for such things as baby-sitting and parking. They also are seeking an injunction to prevent the theater from overselling future concerts. Pine Knob operator Joseph Nederlander first said the Stewart concerts on July 5-6 and the Chicago-Beach Boys shows on July 14-16 were oversold by 1,500 to 2,000 seats each. He later revised that to say that the number of lawn seats should have been reduced by 1,500 to 2,000. He said Stewart, Chicago and the Beach Boys attract an older crowd that wants more room.
