Jorge Paez suffered the first knockdown of his career, but recovered to score a unanimous decision over Steve Cruz and retain the International Boxing Federation featherweight title at El Paso, Tex.
Paez (30-2-2), from Mexicali, Mexico, successfully defended the crown for the third time.
Cruz (33-4) scored the only knockdown of the fight midway through the second round with a right to the head.
