DWP to Mail Notices When It Hikes Rates

Mayor Tom Bradley directed the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power on Monday to notify each of its customers by mail when a rate increase is imminent.
In the past, notices of fee hikes have been published in newspapers, fulfilling the state’s notifications laws.
“The public deserves adequate notification when public utility companies are proposing rate increases, without having to hunt for the information in advertising sections of their newspapers,” Bradley said.
The mayor said his order is in response to complaints from several homeowner groups around the city.
The new notifications will be inserted in customers’ bills.
