VIDEO CHARTS : ‘Mississippi Burning’ Catches Fire
- Share via
With “Twins” and “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” past their peaks, “Dangerous Liaisons” (No. 3) has an outside chance of sneaking past them into the No. 1 position on the Billboard video rental chart. “Mississippi Burning” is burning up the chart, climbing to No. 6 in just two weeks. Though generally regarded as inferior to the original, “The Fly II,” which grossed a noteworthy $19.6 million, could be the biggest rental in the horror genre since “Child’s Play.”
* Mel Gibson fans appear to be eager for anything starring their hero. “Tequila Sunrise,” with Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, grossed nearly $40 million in theaters and debuted at No. 11 on the video rental chart. Look for this 1930s-style romantic drama to end up somewhere in the Top Five.
