Quarterback Michael Carr of Clemson told his high school coach that Clemson broke National Collegiate Athletic Assn. rules while recruiting him.
Coach Gary Hendry of Amita (La.) High School said his interest in the recruitment increased when Carr got an expensive sportscar after signing with Clemson.
Hendry said he asked Carr by telephone if recruiters had done anything illegal. “At that point, he said, ‘Yes,’ ” Hendry said. “I said thank you, and I asked him no more questions.”
Carr, as well as Clemson Coach Danny Ford and his assistants, declined comment. Carr did not attend practice Thursday, and his whereabouts were unknown.
