A car loaded with fireworks accidentally exploded in a supermarket parking lot in the Spanish Mediterranean resort of Alicante, killing eight people and injuring 27 others, an Interior Ministry spokesman said. Early reports said the explosion was a car bomb set off by Basque terrorists, but the ministry spokesman, Agustin Valladolid, said later that the car was filled with fireworks to be set off at a wedding celebration. What triggered the blast was not known.
