Players International Reports Huge Profit Rise

Players International, a Calabasas company that sells memberships to gamblers for discounts on hotel rooms and other services at gaming resorts, said its fiscal first-quarter profit soared to $2.88 million from $51,400 a year earlier.
The profit in the quarter that ended June 30 included a one-time, $3.5-million gain from the settlement of a contract. But Players’ income from operations also rose sharply, to $377,800 from $86,700 a year earlier.
Players’ first-quarter revenue climbed 43% to $3.79 million from $2.65 million.
