Buena Park police announced Monday that they had seized 933 pounds of cocaine hidden in the roof of a travel trailer. It is the largest drug seizure in department history.
Department spokesman Richard McMillan said the officers pulled over a pickup truck towing the trailer on Interstate 15 near Foothill Boulevard in San Bernardino on Aug. 16 and uncovered the cocaine. They arrested the driver and his companion on suspicion of possessing and transporting the drug.
They were identified as Henry Velez Jr., 58, of Buena Park and Yolanda Rebecca Saldana, 24, of Hawaiian Gardens, both of whom were being held in Orange County Jail. Bail was set at $500,000 for Velez and $25,000 for Saldana.
McMillan said he had “no idea” why the seizure and arrests were not reported until Monday nor why investigators would not release further details.
