A car crossed traffic lanes and struck a semitrailer truck head-on in Van Nuys on Tuesday, killing the car’s 17-year-old driver, Los Angeles police reported.
The name of the dead youth, a Van Nuys resident, was withheld until relatives could be notified. The driver of the truck was not injured in the 1:20 p.m. accident at Victory Boulevard and Noble Avenue, Officer Ron White said.
The car was traveling east on Victory when it veered into westbound lanes, narrowly missing a pickup truck before colliding with the semi, White said. The boy died instantly, he said.
It was not known what caused the car to cross into the opposite lanes, White said.
