Two Moorpark men were arrested Monday on suspicion of killing a man known for riding around Moorpark with a dog in a basket on his bicycle, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reported.
Andrew Amavisca, 19, and a 17-year-old youth were arrested Monday afternoon after an informant notified authorities of the men’s location, Lt. Gary Backman said.
The men are suspected in the fatal beating of Chester Lawson, 59, whose body was found July 14 near the trailer where he lived, authorities said.
He had lived in the trailer for several months but did not own it or the property where it was located, authorities said.
Amavisca was being held in lieu of $250,000 bail at the Ventura County Jail, and the youth was being detained at Ventura County Juvenile Hall, Backman said.
The motive for the killing was unknown, Backman said.
