An inmate from the state prison in Otay Mesa was in critical condition at Mercy Hospital after a Monday morning stabbing, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
Prison officials refused to identify the victim of the 11 a.m. attack pending notification of his family. But Lt. John Sandlund of the state Corrections Department said the prisoner, who underwent surgery for two stomach wounds, is expected to recover.
Authorities have no suspects or motive in the stabbing, Sandlund said.
