Court Rejects Czech Activist’s Appeal

PRAGUE, Czechoslovakia — A court Monday rejected the appeal of an underground publisher who was sentenced June 28 to 2 1/2 years in prison following his conviction on incitement charges, the state news agency said.
Frantisek Starek was convicted of “manufacturing and duplicating written documents hostile to the socialist state,” the news agency CTK said.
The court also rejected the appeal for Starek’s fiancee, Iva Vojtkova, who received two years’ probation after being convicted of complicity, CTK said.
Starek, 36, was arrested Feb. 23 on the incitement charge. Police searched his home and confiscated his typewriter, computer and printer and a complete, unpublished issue of Vokno, his self-published periodical.
