Westminster’s Chavez Fights Tonight in Irvine

Ernie Chavez of Westminster takes on Bobby Chinungu of Zambia tonight in the 10-round main event of the monthly boxing program in the grand ballroom at the Irvine Marriott Hotel. Both fighters come into the bout at 148 pounds.
Danny (Magic) Lopez returns to the Marriott after a two-year layoff to fight Fred Thomas in a 140-pound bout in the semi-main event. Lopez fought in the first main event at the Irvine Marriott in February, 1985.
The first of six scheduled fights starts at 7:30 p.m., and tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. today at the hotel.
