Lava-Spewing Mt. Etna Shaken by Two Quakes

CATANIA, Sicily — Two earth tremors shook Mt. Etna on Monday as Europe’s highest and most active volcano spewed lava for the fifth successive day.
The tremors, seven hours apart, were the first on Etna since eruptions started Sept. 11, blasting out chunks of rock, ash and lava.
The lava flow, now nearly five miles long, has been moving down the volcano’s southeast slopes since a fissure opened last Thursday.
