Nicole Jimenez won the individual title in the Western State Conference cross-country championships Friday, leading the Glendale College women’s team to a fourth-place finish in the team competition.
Jimenez covered the rolling, 5,000-meter course at Cuesta College in 18 minutes, 58 seconds to beat Regina Scheultze of Bakersfield, who was second in 19:09.
Bakersfield won the meet with 35 points, followed by Moorpark (65), Oxnard (93) and Glendale (97).
After the meet, Jimenez was named WSC cross-country Athlete of the Year.
Ventura’s Jaime Galindo won the men’s individual title in 20:39, besting Glendale’s James Moore, second on the four-mile course in 20:54.
Led by Galindo, Ventura placed five runners among the top 12 and held off two-time defending champion Glendale, 39-56. Sal Garfias (21:51) and Fred Mizarian (22:08), who placed seventh and ninth, were the only other Glendale runners to crack the top 10.
