A Los Angeles teen-ager was apparently at the end of a three-day crime spree when he shot a Torrance man in front of a supermarket, and then was shot to death by police late Wednesday after a high-speed chase, police said.
Curtis Lee Toney, 18, died of a single gunshot fired by Torrance police in the Willowbrook section of South Los Angeles. Toney was killed less than an hour after he approached Harry Staalberg, 62, in a parking lot and shot him in the stomach during a robbery attempt, police said.
Staalberg was in critical but stable condition Thursday evening at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
