WORLD IN BRIEF : POLAND : Parliament OKs Reduced Jail Terms

The Solidarity-led Parliament in Poland passed a law that reduces the sentences of many prisoners and suspends terms of those convicted of lesser crimes on the grounds that the jail terms set by the former Communist regime were too severe. The law covers crimes committed before Sept. 12, the day the Communist government was replaced by a Solidarity-led administration.
