Efforts to find a compatible donor for an ailing Vietnamese refugee suffered a setback when doctors in Riverside found that a sister brought from a Malaysian refugee camp has blood incompatible for a bone marrow transplant, hospital officials said. Luong Tuan, 35, suffers from aplastic anemia, a disease causing the failure of bone marrow. Healthy marrow produces vital blood components. The odds of finding a compatible donor in the general population is one in 20,000. But a blood relative has a 25% chance of compatibility, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center officials said.
