COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Middleton Gets Chapman Past Biola

Roger Middleton had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead Chapman College to a 69-61 victory over host Biola in a nonconference basketball game Saturday.
Biola led, 28-27, with 3 minutes left in first half, but Chapman outscored Biola, 8-0, to take a 36-27 lead at halftime.
Chapman is 5-2. Biola (4-7) has lost five consecutive games.
In another nonconference men’s game:
Austin Peay 98, Southern California College 73--Jeff Bickmore had 27 points and 12 rebounds, but he got little help as visiting Southern California College dropped to 6-3 on the season. Austin Peay (4-3) was led by Barry Howard and Donald Tibis, who each had 25 points.
Westmont 118, Pacific Christian College 96--Forward Noel Matthews scored 28 first-half points and 38 for the game to pace Westmont (8-1). Matthews converted six of seven three-point shots.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Southern California College 72, Occidental 71--Kristen Bevis’ four points in the final 31 seconds helped the Vanguards rally to win. Bevis, a freshman forward who scored 21 points, hit a jumper to pull SCC (5-2) within one point. After a timeout, the Vanguards forced a turnover, with Bevis picking up the loose ball and scoring on a layup with 18 seconds to play. Nora Menken, who scored 20 points, blocked a shot by Occidental’s Sharon Bruner at the buzzer to clinch the decision.
