The death of Cal State Northridge football player Tommie Gray last month was due to natural causes, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office disclosed Friday.
Gray, 21, collapsed and died of a heart attack Dec. 15 while visiting with friends near the pool at University Park Apartments in Northridge. A spokesman for the coroner’s office said that Gray died of conjunctive cardiomyopathy, the result of an enlarged heart.
Gray’s family has a history of heart disease. The player’s father reportedly died of a heart attack at age 27.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Gray, of Modesto, started at nose tackle for the Matadors.
