PREP ROUNDUP : No. 1 Huntington Beach Rolls in Volleyball

Steve Lucas had 11 kills and Mick Hannenann had six stuff blocks as Huntington Beach High School swept Corona del Mar in a nonleague boys’ volleyball match Wednesday at Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach (4-0), the top-ranked team in the county, won, 15-4, 15-11, 15-8. The Sea Kings are ranked seventh.
In other nonleague boys’ volleyball matches:
Ocean View 3, Culver City 1--Greg Evans had 12 kills and 17 blocks as visiting Ocean View (4-3) won, 16-14, 13-15, 15-9, 15-12.
El Dorado 3, Mater Dei 2--Joe Ugalde had 18 kills, Jerome Facione had 10 kills and 10 stuff blocks and Kevin Kieffer had 42 assists as host El Dorado (2-2) won, 15-10, 15-3, 9-15, 9-15, 15-6.
In Garden Grove League boys’ volleyball:
La Quinta 3, Kennedy 0--Chris Doherty had 11 kills to lead visiting La Quinta (4-1, 3-0), 15-6, 15-4, 15-3.
Rancho Alamitos 3, Santiago 1--Richard Pearce had 18 kills and Loc Pham had 33 assists as host Rancho Alamitos (5-6, 2-1) won, 15-7, 9-15, 15-8, 15-6.
In the Canyon softball tournament:
Mater Dei 4, Gahr 0--Theresa Conway led off the game with a home run and Amy Godwin had a single, a triple, a home run and three runs batted in for Mater Dei. Jennifer Clark (4-0) pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight for the Monarchs (7-0).
In nonleague softball:
Mission Viejo 10, Orange 0--Visiting Mission Viejo (6-2) was led by Kerin Dull (6-1), who pitched a one-hitter and struck out 12 for her fifth shutout of the season, and Gina Casavi, who tripled, doubled and scored.
In Orange League golf:
Valencia 423, Trabuco Hills 432--Valencia’s Chris Tidland shot a two-over-par 74 to lead Valencia (5-0) at Coto de Caza.
In Orange League tennis:
Western 14, Magnolia 4--Ed Peregrino swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, to lead host Western (7-1, 3-1).
Valencia 16, Savanna 2--Danny Yu swept, 6-3, 6-0, 6-1, and Brian Takenaga swept, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1, to lead host Valencia (7-1, 4-0).
In Sea View League tennis:
Corona del Mar 17, Saddleback 1--Trenton Rhodes swept, 7-5, 6-2, 6-3, to lead host Corona del Mar (6-1, 2-1).
University 11, Estancia 7--Visiting University (4-2, 2-0) was led by Willie Dann, who swept, 6-0, 6-1, 6-2, and the doubles team of Steve Tze and Brian Shapiro, who swept, 6-1, 7-5, 7-5.
In Orange League boys’ swimming:
Valencia 102, Anaheim 47--Todd Benning won the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 3.73 seconds and the 100 breaststroke (1:11.25) to lead visiting Valencia (2-1, 1-0).
In Orange League girls’ swimming:
Valencia 91, Anaheim 36--Julie Swail won the 200 individual medley (2:22.86) and the 100 breaststroke (1:12.93) and Roxanne Rangel won the 100 free (55.99) and the 500 free (5:14.92) to lead visiting Valencia (2-1, 1-0).
In Sea View League boys’ swimming:
Newport Harbor 115, University 40--Dietrich Jewell won the 200-yard freestyle and 500 free and Rich Ruffini won the 200 individual medley and the 100 free.
