Revising a Script
In the March 18 Outtakes item “No Gritty Woman,” Pat H. Broeske speaks of movie-industry rewriting but is guilty of doing some rewriting herself.
Her very selective quotes from our brief phone conversation give the mistaken impression that I was unhappy with the way “Pretty Woman” came out and that I fought against a happy ending. This despite that when she called me asking, “What happened to your script?,” I explained to her that I liked the final movie, felt everyone involved did a great job with it and that rather than fight a happy ending, I suggested it.
In any case, I certainly would rather have Disney rewriting my stories than The Times.
