SCEcorp Chairman Blasts Van de Kamp: SCEcorp Chairman Howard Allen lambasted state Atty. Gen. John K. Van de Kamp for opposing the company’s merger with San Diego Gas & Electric Co. Despite that opposition, Allen said he was 90% certain that the merger would be approved by the end of the year. Van de Kamp, who is running for governor, opposes the merger on grounds that it is anti-competitive and that it might add to smog pollution. At SCEcorp’s annual meeting, a shareholder suggested Van de Kamp’s opposition was motivated by a desire to get more votes, causing Allen to erupt with visible anger. “You said it, I didn’t! But I agree with you 100%,” he said. “I’m just so disgusted with it. I thought he had a higher sense of intellectual honesty and competence.”
