The city’s first new library in a dozen years opens its doors today on the east side of town.
The Santiago Hills Branch, a 3,900-square-foot storefront, will serve the city’s rapidly growing population in east Orange. The facility will have a staff of seven full- and part-time employees and will seat about 26 patrons.
Last year, the city authorized spending about $298,000 for the project after a study showed that it was needed, said Karen Leo, library director.
The library is in the Orange Canyon Village Shopping Center, 7522 E. Chapman Ave. Operating hours will be from noon to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
