ARTESIA — Councilman Rod Stach has resigned to move to Salt Lake City to accept a promotion with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Co. The resignation is effective Aug. 16.
Stach, 36, was elected to the five-member City Council in April, 1988. His term would have ended in April, 1992.
Stach said he would prefer that former Councilman Dennis Fellows be appointed to fill the unexpired term. “He has the experience, and he has proven himself,” Stach said.
Fellows served 16 years on the council but decided in April not to run for reelection. He said he would accept an appointment to serve out Stach’s term.
The council has 30 days after the resignation to appoint a successor or hold a special election.
