Tom Seaver, a three-time Cy Young award winner, confirmed Saturday night that he has talked with New York Yankee principal owner George Steinbrenner regarding a “position with the club.”
Responding to published reports in Sunday editions of The New York Daily News that he would be named general manager, Seaver said, “Mr. Steinbrenner and I have had a conversation about my possible association with the New York Yankees.”
The Daily News said in its Sunday editions that the appointment “is more than a rumor. It is all but a done deal.”
Steinbrenner agreed to resign as the Yankees general partner by Aug. 20 as punishment for his association and payment to gambler Howard Spira.
Seaver was 311-205 in a 20-year career that ended in 1986.
