Getting there: Estes Park is 65 miles northwest of Denver, a scenic 1 1/2-hour drive. Take Interstate 25 north from Denver to Highway 36 (Boulder Turnpike), through Boulder and Lyons into Estes Park.
Where to stay: Accommodations in Estes Park range from the plush and historic Stanley Hotel to rustic log cabins and campgrounds that are open year-round. When to go: The next Scottish-Irish Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9, at the Stanley Park Field, Highway 36 and Community Drive in Estes Park. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Gate passes are $9 for adults, $2 for children 6-16, younger children free. Special two-day adult pass is $14. Tickets for the Tattoo are $10 apiece.
