Rancho Santiago 37, Mt. San Antonio 16--J.C. Grid-Wire All-American halfback Estrus Crayton scored five touchdowns to lead Rancho Santiago (2-0, 1-0) to victory over Mt. San Antonio (2-1, 0-1) at the Santa Ana Bowl.
Crayton amassed 236 total yards, including 147 rushing in 29 carries. He also caught five passes for 55 yards. In two games, he has 489 all-purpose yards.
Rancho Santiago took a 17-2 first-half lead on touchdown runs of 11 and three yards by Crayton and a 47-yard field goal by Tim Hatcher. After a third-quarter seven-yard scoring run by Crayton, Mt. San Antonio closed the gap to 23-16 on Mike Smith’s scoring runs of one and 27 yards.
The Dons increased their lead to 30-16 on a 63-yard scoring drive capped by Crayton’s one-yard run with 9:39 left. Val Leedy’s recovery of a Mountie fumble on the Mt. San Antonio 1 set up Crayton’s final score with 1:06 remaining.
