An 11-year-old La Mesa girl was attacked and sexually assaulted on her way to school Thursday morning, resulting in severe bruising to her forehead and other injuries, authorities said.
Police were looking late Thursday for a white man in his late 20s, 5-foot-11, 180 pounds, with brown, collar-length hair. He was described as unshaven and wearing a pink, short-sleeved shirt, faded Levi’s and gray and white tennis shoes, a spokeswoman for the La Mesa Police Department said.
A composite drawing of the attacker has been released. The description was provided by the girl, police said.
The assault occurred in an open area near Parkway Middle School at 9009 Park Plaza in La Mesa, the spokeswoman said. She added that the girl was struck several times during the attack.
Asked whether the girl knew the attacker, Lt. Bobby Barrett said, “That information is not available at this time.” Barrett did say the man “was familiar with the area.”
He said the girl was treated at a hospital.
