Sheriff’s detectives recovered $6,400 in stolen stereo equipment and arrested two Newbury Park teen-agers in connection with two burglaries at the local high school this summer, authorities said Thursday.
The youths, ages 17 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of felony burglary charges, Ventura County Sheriff’s Detective Joe Braga said.
The 18-year-old will be tried as a juvenile because he was 17 when the crimes were committed. He faces an additional charge of possession of stolen property, Braga said.
In mid-June, burglars entered Newbury Park High School on Reno Road through a window and removed $1,400 worth of stereo speakers from the wall, Braga said.
In mid-August, $5,000 worth of stereo equipment, including amplifiers and cassette decks, were taken, he said.
Braga said the equipment was recovered Wednesday night and was returned to the school Thursday afternoon.
