Red Cross Seeks First-Aid Volunteers

The American Red Cross is seeking additional help for activities scheduled this fall in Ventura County.
It hopes to double the membership of its First Aid Support Team so volunteering does not become a burden to current members, said Lenore Gabel, a spokeswoman for the Ventura County branch of the nonprofit group. About 15 men and women now make up the team, which takes care of first-aid stations at various community events.
“The team is a skeletal crew . . . called on to do these jobs over and over,” she said. “And we’re piling up these events--sometimes two and three a weekend.”
People who want to pitch in at first-aid stations can be trained in October and November if they have valid first-aid or CPR certification, she said. Classes will be held Oct. 8, 16, 24 and Nov. 1.
Those without certification can receive basic first-aid training through the Red Cross chapter.
