With ticket sales of $6.9 million, the yuppie thriller “Pacific Heights” claimed the No. 1 spot in its opening weekend. Starring Melanie Griffith and Matthew Modine as landlords who rent their San Francisco apartment to a cunningly deranged Michael Keaton, the 20th Century Fox film--directed by John Schlesinger--opened at 1,278 theaters for a per-screen average of $5,409. With ticket sales of $5.8 million, Martin Scorsese’s “GoodFellas” slid to second place, but with only a 9% drop over the film’s opening weekend. Meanwhile, Paramount’s “Ghost” climbed more than 5%, with ticket sales of $5.4 million and has now surpassed the $150 million mark.
* Peter Bogdanovich’s “Texasville,” the sequel to the 1971 “The Last Picture Show,” earned just $823,534 on 354 screens--averaging $2,326 a screen.
