HAVANA — A Cuban airliner carrying tourists crashed near the southeastern city of Santiago de Cuba early Wednesday, killing 10 people, Cuba’s Civil Aviation Institute said.
A spokesman said five of the 10 dead were Cubans. Four others were Germans. The remaining victim had not yet been identified.
The other 21 people on the plane, including 12 Spaniards, survived with varying injuries.
The Soviet-built Cubana de Aviacion Yak-40 went down at Punta Jardinero, five miles east of Cuba’s second city of Santiago de Cuba.
