World IN BRIEF : UNITED NATIONS : Arab Delegates Switch Israel Stand

Arab delegates to the United Nations agreed to abandon efforts to have Israel’s U.N. General Assembly credentials rejected. Instead, they will press for an amendment making clear that the credentials do not cover Israeli-occupied territories, Lebanon’s U.N. ambassador, Khalil Makkawi, said. Every year since 1982, when the U.N. credentials committee’s report has come before the General Assembly, the Arab group has called for rejection of the Israeli credentials. But each time the move was defeated.
