SANTA ANA : Toddler Run Over, Killed Outside Home
- Share via
In what police described as an apparent freak accident, a 15-month-old boy was run over and killed outside his home Sunday morning by a truck carrying his father and his uncle.
Police said the victim, Roman Avalos, had been playing in the front yard outside his residence in the 1600 block of South Broadway shortly before the accident occurred at 11:29 a.m.
The boy’s father, Marcelino Avalos, 27, and uncle, Santiago Martinez, got into a truck parked on the street outside the residence, police said. The father told police he checked to see if there were any children near the truck before leaving and, seeing none, left. Martinez was driving.
But soon after the two men drove off, they were flagged down and “advised that they had run over the child,” police reported.
