Sanders Swims to Third Victory

Stanford’s Summer Sanders, one of the new kids on the block in American women’s swimming, became a triple winner in the U.S. Open Swimming meet Sunday at Indianapolis by placing first in the 200-meter butterfly.

Sanders, an 18-year-old freshman from Roseville, Calif., who had swept the medley races the past two days, won the butterfly in 2 minutes 12.33 seconds.

She set the only meet record in the three-day event at the Indiana University Natatorium with a 2:15.01 clocking in the 200 medley on Friday--the third fastest time in the world for the event.
