DANA POINT — A resident walking behind the Dana Point Community Center found the body of a 44-year-old county worker on a basketball court in a public park, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said today. Authorities said he had been shot repeatedly.
The body of Jimmy Lee Oxford of Perris was discovered last night on the darkened basketball court in a pool of blood, Sheriff’s Department Lt. Bob Rivas said. He had been shot several times in the upper body and head.
Homicide detectives have not determined how long the body had been there, whether the shooting took place there or what the motive may have been, Rivas said.
“That all is still being investigated,” Rivas said.
Rivas said that an autopsy was scheduled this morning but that results will not be available until late this afternoon.
Police believe that Oxford, a county Environmental Management Agency employee, worked at a nearby road maintenance yard, Rivas said.
