Thankfully, we are told in “The Wise Buys” why the prices are so reasonable. It’s a “matter of social conscience.” In light of such enormous problems as homelessness, AIDS and the threat of war in the Persian Gulf . . . it’s in bad taste now to overspend. . . .”

No wonder selected items are such bargains. For the men, a blazer at $362, a shirt for $85, a tie only $68.50, a belt just $75. And a woman may steal a cotton shirt for $195. Now the homeless, ill and families of service men and women can breathe more easily, knowing the fashion world is so understanding.
