HOUSTON — Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard A. Shevardnadze will meet in Washington with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir, a move that could enhance relations between the two countries, U.S. officials said today.
Shevardnadze is winding up two days of talks here with Secretary of State James A. Baker III. One of the main topics is the Persian Gulf crisis.
The Soviets have held out the prospect of resuming normal relations with Israel after a 23-year break. They have exchanged diplomats but formal ties remain broken since the 1967 Mideast war.
