NCAA Accepts Maryland Penalties

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The NCAA has accepted Maryland’s self-imposed penalties for basketball Coach Gary Williams and some staff members watching a preseason pickup game last year.
The penalties were also for issuing practice gear during the summer of 1990.
Maryland reprimanded those involved in the NCAA violations and postponed preseason practice by five days to Oct. 20., according to the university.
The letter from NCAA Assistant Director of Enforcement David Berst stated, “The committee (NCAA Committee on Infractions) has accepted the university’s actions as appropriate in this matter and concluded that no additional penalty should be imposed by the committee.”
