Pomona Boys Favored to Win Event

Pomona High School, which finished 20-7 last year and won the Montview League basketball title, is the favorite to win the El Dorado Co-ed Classic, which begins today at El Dorado High School in Placentia.
Johnny McWilliams, a two-time all-Southern Section forward, is Pomona’s top player. McWilliams averaged 23 points as a junior.
The girls’ first-round pairings:
Today: 3 p.m.--Sunny Hills vs. Canyon; 6--Long Beach Jordan vs. Whittier Christian.
Wednesday: 3 p.m.--Santa Clarita Canyon vs. Downey; 6--Pomona vs. El Dorado.
The boys’ first-round pairings:
Today: 4:30 p.m.--Sunny Hills vs. Canyon; 7:30--Long Beach Jordan vs. Whittier Christian.
Wednesday: 4:30 p.m.--Santa Clarita Canyon vs. Downey; 7:30--Pomona vs. El Dorado.
