El Monte : Fire Service Plan Discussed

Firefighters say the city could save money by letting the county run the Fire Department.

But the City Council postponed approval of a $5,500 study of the issue until the city determines whether Los Angeles County is interested in giving fire protection to the city.

Several council members said they favored the city’s maintaining an independent Fire Department.

Local firefighters brought up the issue at the Sept. 11 council meeting and later requested the study. City residents voted against such a switch in 1974.
