A Los Angeles landlords’ group filed lawsuits Wednesday challenging a city law requiring owners of rent-control apartments to pay 5% interest on security deposits and one limiting rent hikes when a child or twins are added as tenants in a rental unit.
The nonprofit Apartment Assn. of Greater Los Angeles, which represents 30,000 landlords, alleges that the recently enacted laws are unconstitutional and discriminatory and will adversely affect the amount of money its members can make from their properties.
The suits, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, also contend the laws will cause of “flood of lawsuits.”
