Stephen Teichner, a prominent California pollster, will join the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office as a “special assistant for criminal justice planning,” Dist. Atty. Ira Reiner said Thursday.
Teichner, 47, said he will do no polling in his new position.
In a written statement, Reiner said Teichner will work as a consultant on community-relations issues such as consumer protection, victim assistance and hate crimes.
Teichner Associates, founded in 1976, will close Jan. 7. The Orange County-based firm had developed a national reputation and was relied on extensively by the news media and political candidates for its weekly polls during state and national elections.
Teichner’s salary will be $69,150, said Sandi Gibbons, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.
